Leading candidate – European Greens
Ska Keller is president and migration policy spokesperson for the Greens/EFA group in the European Parliament. In 2009 she was elected to the Parliament at the age of just 27. Ska was the European Greens’ front runner at the last European elections in May 2014 and after her re-election she is now in her second term of office.
She is a member of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE).
On the Committee on Civil Liberties she works to strengthen the rights of refugees and migrants and achieve a fair asylum policy in the EU. She is also a member of the European Parliament’s Turkey and Mexico Delegations.
Ska was born in 1981 in Guben in the state of Brandenburg (formerly the East German town of Wilhelm-Pieck-Stadt Guben). She studied Islamic Studies, Turkology and Jewish Studies at the Free University Berlin and the Sabanci Üniversitesi Istanbul. She completed her degree in 2010. Before becoming a member of the European Parliament, Ska was a board member of the German Young Greens, spokeswoman for the Federation of Young European Greens (FYEG) and chairperson and spokesperson on women’s policy for Alliance 90/The Greens in Brandenburg.
