Leading candidate for the European Parliament for Groen (Flemish party in Belgium)
Prof. Petra De Sutter is a Belgian Senator for the Flemish Green Party Groen. As a Senator, she is also a Member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the oldest human rights body of the European continent. She is a professor in gynaecology, specialized in infertility treatments, and runs the Department of Reproductive Medicine at Ghent University Hospital. Since her political debut, De Sutter has tackled important issues like surrogacy and sexual and reproductive rights for women and girls. She also stands up for environmental health risks like endocrine disrupting chemicals and the rights of refugee and LGBTI minorities. At the Council of Europe, she chairs the Rules-Committee and fights for more transparency, against corruption.
