Member of the European Parliament
Ernest Urtasun was born on 27 January 1982. He has obtained a BA in Economics from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, a Diploma in International Relations from the University of Barcelona and concluded the Spanish Diplomatic Corps College.
Since 1998 he has been politically active locally and internationally with Young Green Left (JEV), Federation of Young European Greens (FYEG) and the European Green Party (EGP).
He worked as assistant to a Member of European Parliament. In 2010 he joined the Diplomatic Corps having different responsibilities in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation in Spain and abroad. From 2011 to 2014 he worked as the Diplomatic Advisor to the Secretary General of the UpM – Union for the Mediterranean.
He was elected MEP in 2014 as the Head of Iniciativa per Catalunya Verds’ list to the European Parliament, sitting in the Greens/EFA Political Group in the EP.
Since 2016 he has been the spokesperson of Catalunya en Comú, party of the Mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau.
